The Mexico–United States border is an international boundary running from Tijuana, Baja California, and Imperial Beach, California in the west. Matamoros, Tamaulipas, and Brownsville, Texas, in the east. The most famous bordering city is Tijuana. In 2000 to 2005 Tijuana, was the top tourist place in Mexico, most of the american citizen living in the bordering cities would go visit Tijuana during there breaks. Although, since the percentage of kidnappers and assassination have rose in the past 3 years, the tourism has decreased in a drastic manner. Today, Tijuana is the top most dangerous city in Mexico, due to the different drug cartels in that area. A drug cartel is a criminal organization with the goal to promote and control the drug trafficking operations.
Over the past three years, over 16 thousand people where killed, 12 people per day, due to drug related problems. Most of there tragedies occurred in the bordering countries such as, Tijuana, Sonoyta, Ciudad Juarez, Laredo and Matamoros. Authorities say that out of those 16 thousand people only 10% of the cases are investigated. This is due to the high corruption there is inside the police and military programs. This high percentage leads to unprotected cities and citizens living in constant fear.
Drug traffickers use Tijuana and other bordering cities as a final stop, before getting the drugs on US soil. Most of the drug mule happens in this stage. Drug mule is the transportation of illegal drugs, this method includes smuggling drugs by hiding them in the vehicles, attaching them to one’s body, or also using someones body as a container to hide the drugs. Additionally, when drug traffickers are at the final stage before cross the boarder, to export the drugs into US soil, they start needing out side assistance to due the job for them. Thus means that the drug traffickers start to kidnap and threatening peoples life. This was one of the winning factors that the Mexican government started to evaluate before declaring war against the drug cartels.
